Michelle Bohreer, Chairman of Boyar & Miller’s Litigation Group, has been chosen as 2005’s Shining Star Award Recipient. The award is in recognition of her ongoing volunteer work with children suffering with cancer, and her seven years of service supporting the Rotary Lombardi Award, an annual benefit that raises significant funds for the American Cancer Society through its recognition of a college football lineman for exemplifying the discipline of Vince Lombardi. The 10th Annual 2005 Starlight Gala will award this honor to Michelle on April 9th at The Grand Room in downtown Houston. The Gala, a benefit for the American Cancer Society, seeks to introduce young professionals to philanthropic fundraising. Each year the Starlight Gala honors a professional who, through commitment and tireless dedication, forwards the efforts of the American Cancer Society, a nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. The funds raised for the American Cancer Society will forward the organization’s mission of providing research, education, advocacy and service. “I am honored to be receiving the Shining Star Award, but the real stars are the children who, despite their battle, greet you with smiles. It is my privilege to spend time helping in the fight against juvenile cancer. I hope to use this recognition as an opportunity to encourage others to support the battle against cancer both by donating time and resources to the efforts of the American Cancer Society,” Michelle stated. Heading up Boyar & Miller’s Litigation Group, Michelle has taken her passion in the courtroom and applied it with the same intensity to support the fight against cancer. Her commitment to the cause is both a family and firm undertaking. Michelle is the Vice Chair of the Rotary Lombardi Award Committee for 2005 and will be the first woman chair of the Award Committee, hosting the 37th Annual Rotary Lombardi Award in 2006. She and her husband Steve continue their commitment to making personal visits to the children in the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and the Oncology Department at Texas Children’s Hospital. As part of one of the firm’s core values, commitment to community, Boyar & Miller and its professionals offer both their time and professional expertise to numerous charitable endeavors in the area. In addition to supporting this year’s Starlight Gala, the firm’s professionals are involved in charitable efforts including the End Hunger Network, a nonprofit organization that operates food rescue and hunger-relief programs; Camp For All Foundation, a camp for chronically ill and disabled children and adults; and SEARCH, an organization dedicated to assisting homeless people and their families.
